PROJECT OVERVIEWUniversity of Illinois Monument

Location: Springfield, Illinois
Year Completed: July 2005
Fabricator: Indiana Cut Stone
Architect/Designer: Hanson, Massie & Massie
Mason/Installer: Otto Baum Co., Inc.

In an engineering feat coordinating a steel structure with stone, this monument at the University of Illinois in Springfield shows how Indiana limestone can be used in even the most challenging of applications. Standard buff stone with a smooth finish creates a classic look on this modern work of art.

The fabricator, Indiana Cut Stone, provided a product that made installation as easy as possible. The foreman from Otto Baum, Mike Kern, states “this was a unique job. All of the stone fit together really well and looked good after installation. Very little work had to be done to change the stone to fit the steel and the site conditions.” The project manager from Otto Baum, Jedd Rocke, adds that “it was a successful job for all.”
